Brush, Trash, and Hydrant Flushing
Brush Pick Up
Each Monday, (Tuesday if a holiday falls on Monday) weather permitting, the village employees will be picking up brush along the streets of the village. It would also be very helpful if the brush or garden waste material was placed along the street by 8:00 a.m. All brush, tree limbs etc. must be bundled with twine in 4 foot lengths or shorter for one person to handle. All small items such as small twigs or garden waste should be put in small containers, five gallon buckets or cardboard boxes. We will leave the containers for you to use the next time however the cardboard boxes can be mulched so it can be mixed in on the truck. If you decide to use larger garbage cans for your small material, please don’t place the material in the cans as tight as you can. The village employees need to be able to dump the contents of those containers on to our trucks. Absolutely no plastic garbage bags or plastic sacks will be picked up.
The brush material is hauled by village employees to be mulched. If you, as Pandora residents, want to haul brush yourself, we have an arrangement with the village of Ottawa that will accept it at their municipal garage at 1323 N. Defiance (St. Rt. 15). However they will not accept plastic of any kind as that does not break down in the mulch. If you have any questions at all concerning this, please contact Rick Morrison at 419-615-2669. In addition, please try not to blow grass out on the streets when mowing grass. Not only is unsightly on the streets, but the clippings get into the village catch basins, creating a maintenance problem.
Town Wide Trash Day
The third or fourth Saturday of June, the village will provide roll-off containers at the Arthur-Lugibihl Community Center, 301 N. Jefferson St. from the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please have with you proof of residency such as a photo I.D., water/sewer bill, electric bill, etc. We will have individuals available to assist you in unloading your items. We will notify you each year when the date is set.
Items such as tires, paint, hazardous chemicals and construction debris from new or major remodeling will not be accepted.
Annual Hydrant Flushing
The Pandora village employees will once again be flushing the fire hydrants in the village limits sometime in spring and fall. We always like to remind residents of this maintenance procedure. The flushing will be taking place on some (not every) Tuesdays, Wednesdays and possibly Fridays. Unfortunately it is impossible to inform everyone exactly what day this activity will take place throughout the village.
All fire hydrants are flushed on a regular basis in order to help improve water quality. For example, flushing helps maintain good chlorine residual throughout the system, as well as helping to reduce scale from the water main. Flushing also allows the opportunity to inspect each hydrant to make sure they are in good working order. It is advisable not to wash clothes until after 4:00 p.m. the following day of flushing hydrants in your area.
